My first memory of any big news story was the 1984 presidential election when I was in first grade. My parents hated Reagan, but my best friend at the time thought that he was cute. To my parent's chagrin I told them this and that they should vote for him. They just laughed at me, but I think this was one of the first of many political disagreements I've had with my parents.
